Heavy-Haul Moving Block System

Background

The rapid development of China's economy has highlighted challenges in energy and freight transport; while existing train control systems for heavy-haul railways, both domestic and international, struggle to meet the demands, making the adoption of moving block systems an inevitable trend in the development of heavy-haul railways. However, with no prior international experience in the engineering application of moving block systems to heavy-haul railways, a safe and efficient train control system becomes an urgent need.

The "14th Five-Year Plan", the"Outline for Building China’s Strength in Transport", and China Energy Investment's strategic planning provide policy, technical, and directional guidance forthe research and application of heavy-haul moving block systems.

Product Features

  • High Customization

Based on in-depth research on the actual operations of the ShuohuangHeavy-Haul Railway, the system is tailored to the complex realities of China’s heavy-haul railway scenarios, such as the difficulty of controlling long downhill gradients, significant impulsesof heavy-haul trains, and complex transport environments. It addresses bottlenecks such as the challenge of improving dispatching capacity of heavy-haul railways.

  • Safe, Efficient, and Scalable

The system establishes an information-sharing platform that integrates trains, ground infrastructure, and control centersThis improves information sharing and transport efficiency for heavy-haul trains and ensures tracking safety.Meanwhile, it lays the foundation for the future development of autonomous and driverless operations, as well as seamless intermodal transport systems such as rail-to-water and rail-to-air transport.

  • Low Overall Construction Costs

The system leverages BeiDou satellite positioning to achieve SIL4-grade safety positioning and integrity checking in open-air scenarios. This improves positioning accuracy during interstation operation, significantly reduces the need for ground-based balise deployment, and lowers construction and maintenance costs of the signaling system.

Application Examples

ShuoHuang Heavy-Haul Railway:The application of the moving block systemhas significantly reduced the average train departure intervalby 34%. The system also alleviates the workload of driving and maintenance personnel while improving overall operational efficiency and safety.
