"The core technology cannot be bought, and the right to speak cannot be bought. Only independent innovation can make China's rail transit signal system no longer controlled by others." Gao Chunhai, chairman of Traffic Control Technology Co., Ltd., said.
"Research and development of a set of rail transit signal system with independent innovation in China" has become a strong aspiration of Gao Chunhai. Since 2000, in response to the call of the national core technology industrialization and autonomy strategy, Gao Chunhai, who was still engaged in teaching at that time and began the arduous road of independent innovation.
When he was most confused, he closed himself up, studied and analyzed day and night, and then conveyed his ideas to other team members. Sometimes in order to do the test, Gao Chunhai's team stayed on the "clanging" train for several days, sweaty in summer and cold in winter.

After 10 years of research and development, at the end of 2010, with the smooth opening of the demonstration project of the CBTC signal system of "Beijing Metro Yizhuang Line", the third generation CBTC technology developed by foreign giants was successful under the efforts of the Chunhai team. This track line not only achieves the highest SIL4 safety level in the world, but also shortens the shortest driving interval to 90 seconds, and the passenger travel efficiency is greatly improved.
With this set of signal system, China has become the first country in Asia and the fourth country in the world to master and apply this core technology, and the problem of "neck jam" that has restricted China's rail transit signal system for decades has been solved.
At present, CBTC system has been widely used in the country, and gradually open up the international market. The application of independent innovative signal system has further reduced the construction cost of rail transit in China. According to statistics, lines equipped with domestic signal system will save at least 3 million to 4 million yuan per kilometer.
After the success of CBTC, Gao Chunhai carried out research on the needs of automation and intelligent development.
At the end of 2017, the fully automatic operation system (self-driving) technology developed by Gao Chunhai's team was applied for the first time in the national demonstration project of Beijing Metro Yanfang Line. The subway Beijing Daxing International Airport Line has also applied the 4.5-generation interconnected fully automatic operation system developed by the Gao Chunhai team, making this line with a design speed of 160 km / hour. It has become the fastest fully automatic urban rail transit line in the world.
With the great improvement of the competitiveness of China's domestic signal system, the attitude of foreign "established" enterprises has gradually changed. It is understood that foreign enterprises used to charge 20% more for the use of technology for each extra line, but now they are starting to reduce prices and change their service attitude.
In Gao Chunhai's view, in order to achieve the stride from a big transportation country to a traffic power, it is necessary not only to have the internationally leading core technology, but also to stand the test of time and be generally recognized by the international community. "Under the background of large-scale infrastructure construction, more and more domestic innovative technologies will be applied, and the technical standards of China's rail transit signal system will also be widely used in the international field."

As an entrepreneur coming out of the campus, Gao Chunhai is well aware of the importance of basic scientific research. Under his suggestion, Traffic Control Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Beijing Natural Science Foundation and Fengtai District, set up a joint fund to encourage more university research teams to devote themselves to basic science research.
